valentine's day surprises?

little brown pen pdf template available here $5.

All over blogland I have been seeing the different ideas for Valentine's day and yet, I haven't come up with anything for the Mister. This is so not like me, and I'm blaming pregnancy for my lack of creative genius in this situation.

Do you celebrate Valentine's Day in a big way, or in a small and simple way? Do you incorporate the whole family or keep it between you and your spouse? Do you have a tradition you follow every year, or switch it up? With the current economy are you cutting back this year or still going all out?

Mostly, I'm hoping you can Inspire me...

  1. I was going to get him something like a new phone, or a book or something like that...
But instead I'm just going to get him a card and write something nice inside. I'm totally clueless about what else to do! He's not a big candy or sweets person AT ALL...I'll have to check back and see if anyone else comments. Maybe I can get some ideas!

  2. I think we kind of do a "medium" sort of thing. My husband and I decide on a price limit in advance (so nobody goes overboard while the other goes simple). We go out to dinner and exchange little gifts afterward.(along the vein of booking him a massage or getting him a car detail service gift certificate...haha) My favorite part is the cards and we write long notes to each other in them.

  3. I'm giving my hubby The Gift of Nothing by Patrick McDonnell. It's a sweet children's book with an amazing message.

  4. We usually keep it simple (my husband's birthday is Feb. 13th, so maybe that's why...) and just put the kids to bed, then melt some chocolate and dip strawberries and bananas in it. And exchange cards too...love it!

  5. We celebrate small, with dinner in (good take-out or homemade alfredo and luscious dessert). We include our 2 year old and exchange cards & small gifts for eachother--like a CD or book or article of clothing. Twice we've gifted eachother the same album! When it works out, I like to make a sweetheart breakfast with heart-shaped toast or pancakes or maybe sweet rolls and strawberries.

  6. I read the coolest idea in the Ensign today that I am going to do with my husband this week:

    Kimball Benson
I gave my wife what I thought was a one-time gift for Christmas, but when Valentine’s Day drew close, I saw my gift as one that could truly “keep on giving.” I enjoy giving cards to my wife, but I realized that they were usually read once or twice and then tossed into a box or binder or discarded in the trash. I wanted something that would be long lasting for my wife to read again and again. So I substituted an inexpensive notebook for my Christmas card and wrote down my memories and feelings about our courtship and marriage. There was no specific order or theme to my entries. I just wrote down what came to mind.

When Valentine’s Day approached, I decided to pull out the notebook, write down my feelings once again, and wrap it up as my “card.” After this, the notebook entries weren’t just for holiday gifts. Now anytime she does something kind for me or I feel a rush of love and appreciation for her, I pull out the notebook and record those feelings. I never tell her when I have added an entry. I let her be surprised when she checks the notebook periodically.

And I was pleasantly surprised for my birthday when my wife gave me my own “notebook card,” sharing her feelings for me. We look forward to filling these notebooks and many more for years to come.

  7. What if you made a punch of your own paper conversation hearts with simple saying. You could make all reds from you, two different shades of pink from the girls and light blue from the little Mister.

You could also do heart pancakes, heart sandwich for lunch and maybe heart shaped hamburgers for dinner, or even heart shaped anything? Cost Plus World Market has heart noodles too.

Just an idea??? Mind you I haven't planned anything yet :)

  8. We usually keep Valentine's Day pretty low key. One time I made heart shaped waffles and chocolate chip cookies for my hubby and he loved that. We also love to go out for a nice breakfast together. It's less busy than dinner and now that we have our son, probably a lot easier as well!
